Glossary
- Backend address
- The host and port of the real web server behind an origin.
127.0.0.1:80 on the master in a single-host setup.
- Cluster
- A named group of QSCS nodes that share an origin list. Also called a domain.
- Control plane
- The HTTPS service that issues licenses, holds cluster membership, and records which node is the master.
- Degraded
- The state of a QSCS node's view of one of its upstreams after enough consecutive failures. While degraded, the node serves HEADLESS.
- Domain
- Same as cluster. Historic name, still used in CLI and config file.
- HEADLESS
- Operating mode in which QSCS serves cached responses because the upstream cannot be reached.
- Identity
- An optional authentication binding tied to the cluster's identity backend. Required for origins flagged
Auth=identity.
- Implicit-Origin Model
- The rule that thin clients'
[Origins] entries point at the master's QSCS port, not at the real backend. QSCS enforces this both when writing the config file and at startup.
- License
- A short string that activates a node and ties it to an account in the control plane.
- Master
- The single node in a cluster that holds the real backend addresses. There is always exactly one.
- Node
- One QSCS process running on one host. Has a stable UUID.
- Origin
- A virtual host served by QSCS, along with the backend address that should answer for it.
- Peer
- Another node in the same cluster, from this node's point of view.
- Subscribe
- The CLI action that asks the control plane for the current peer list and origins of a cluster, then rewrites the local
qscs.conf with that information.
- Tag
- The first eight characters of a node's UUID, used as a short identifier in logs and the
[Domain] block.
- Thin client
- Any node in a cluster that is not the master.
